                                                                                                              11/17/2010

LONG BEACH, NY.....
In the 1st annual Ronald McDonald Cup, the NY Apple Core Empire team took on the Suffolk PAL Juniors at Long Beach in a charity game for a great cause. The Ronald McDonald House helps families of sick children with the financial burden of hospital stays and is critical for many families in their time of need. Ex-AC Coach Chris Cosentino who works at RMH set up the game between the two perennial Jr 'B' powers on LI. AC and PAL won the previous two National Championships and have been at the top of their respective Leagues for years. The idea for this game was developed in August and the two organizations also took part in cooking dinners for the residents. Many sponsors came through with nice donations, including the players who each solicited their own share of donations for the RMH. In attendance last night was Ronald McDonald himself and the Islanders' mascot also. Approximately 250 people were in attendance and the game was covered by Fast Hockey (TV) and MSG Varsity (Interviews). FastHockey.com is a pay per view hockey computer access service and they donated all proceeds from last night to the RMH. Both teams looked forward to this game and the atmosphere was really exciting. Citifield public address announcer Alex Anthony graciously donated his talents to the cause also. After the opening ceremonies which included Ronald McDonald dropping the ceremonial first puck added to the atmosphere of the game. The game started off well for PAL as Nikita Sokolov scored the first goal of the game just :53 seconds into the game. It was all 'Core after that as they scored the next (14) goals of the game. Brett Jacobson & Mike Mascaro registered Hat Tricks, with Jacobsonreceiving Player of the Game. Mike Brennan, CJ Delvaglio, Joe Naclerio all scored (2) goals each with Pat Condon, Justin LaCorte, & Tim Genova all adding goals also. Mike Goldstein had (5) assists, with Ori Benyamini, & CJ Delvaglio adding (3) apiece. The final score was 15-3. The RMH raised a lot of money and it certainly goes to a great cause. The game next year will be hosted by PAL at the Rinx in Hauppague, NY.

APPLE CORE EMPIRE TEAM COMPLETES DINNER PROGRAM
FOR RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE
                                                                                                              9/27/2010

New Hyde Park, NY – The New York Apple Core Empire team completed their second session of the dinner program at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Monday night. Ten members of the team cooked a lavish meal for the guests of the house. Pat Condon and Mike Goldstein created a beautiful salad. They must have taken lessons on presentation from EJ Associate Coach Larry Nastasi in Marlboro over the weekend. Brett “Tex” Jacobson, Matt Sullivan, and Joe Bochichio were dicing cloves of garlic and chopping up broccoli while the spaghetti was boiling. They made a great spaghetti with broccoli and garlic and oil dish. Ori Benyamini and Mike Brennan were sitting around most of the time as it took 45 minutes for them to boil the noodles they needed in order to make their baked ziti. Mike Mascaro and Zander Masucci were busy baking the entire time. Even though their brownies took over an hour to make, their desserts looked fantastic. Ivan “Lurch” Reitmeyer was the official dishwasher. The team put him in this position because they were scared what would happen if he was using the oven, stove, or knives. While Head Chef Jon Sandos was helping the players create this extravagant banquet, Head Coach Henry Lazar was seen sitting and eating his own White Castle meal he picked up along the way. Fortunately for the guests of the House, Lazar was kept out of the pantry so he could not steal the extra cans of Chef Boyardee. “It was a great experience for the players involved. Apple Core prides itself on not only developing hockey players, but also developing men of character who always look to give back to their community. The Ronald McDonald house is a great organization and Apple Core could not be happier with their partnership” stated Sandos. The Empire Team will continue working with the RMH as they begin to fundraise for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island Cup, a game that will be played on Tuesday November, 16 at 7:30pm at Long Beach Arena against the Suffolk Juniors.

APPLESAUCE – Joe Bochichio was only there for 10 minutes before he sneakily stole a piece of garlic bread and ate it. Reitmeyer washed one knife; the entire team ran away because of what may happen while he was in possession of the dangerous object. The RMH is checking the video surveillance tape for two things: 1. Did it really take an hour for the brownies? Or did Mascaro and Masucci eat the first batch and then had to make a new one? 2. If Coach Lazar did not take Chef Boyardee, what canned meal did he take home for dinner? On the injury front, Benyamini hurt his back further as he was mixing 4 boxes of ziti, cheese and sauce. It is rumored that he had to reach so high in order to actually get up to the pot to mix that he pulled a muscle in the process.

CORE COOKS UP BIG MEAL AT RONALD McDONALD HOUSE
MEAL FIT FOR A KING
                                                                                                              9/21/2010

QUEENS, NY.... Under the guidance of Chief Chef Henry Lazar, members of the Empire team cooked dinner for the residents of Ronald McDonald House. The House is essential for parents of sick children who are being treated and need to be near the hospital for a long period of time and cannot afford huge hotel bills. Everything is provided for these families and most of their needs are donated. The 'Core will play a charity game Nov. 16th at Long Beach against PAL to help support the RMH. The House invites groups to cook each day to prepare meals for the residents. After shopping at Waldbaums, the players (Dylan Scarpato, Tim Genova, Mark Devaughn, Ned Torrico, Mike Dellatto, Keegan Travers and Assistant Coach Brian Johnston) met Chris Cosentino who welcomed the group and got us settled in. Assignments were given.....Travers & Torrico on the grill for the Hamburgers and Hot dogs, DeVaughn & Genova handling the salads, Scarpato on the Rice A Roni, Dellatto on the veggies and Johnston on the French Fries. The Chief Chef handled the appetizers, macaroni and cheese and supervision. We bought food for (20) as we figured Ned would "taste" some of the Hot Dogs and Hamburgers. Travers (Long Beach, NY) was exceptional with the knives and grill tools. We were worried when Genova tried to cut the carrots with a sharp knife with his great hands. Pieces of carrot were flying in every direction. Scarpato needed 3 boxes of Rice a Roni to net 2 boxes of the San Francisco treat. The entire bottom of the skillet was caked with burnt rice. Brian had the easiest job....put the french fries in the oven and heat at 400 degrees. Well, he screwed that up with half the fries burnt and the other 1/2 looking pretty sad. He needs to attend Larry's cooking school. My macaroni and cheese and appetizers were perfect. Just like 'Pierre" from the Waldorf. I also did well putting the Potato Chips out and setting up.  A can of Chef Boy Ar Dee Spaghetti and Meatballs mysteriously appeared so the Chief Chef decided to eliminate the temptations of all the residents by eating it himself. All in all, a great fun day and for a worthy cause. The second group of cooks headed by Chef Jon Sandos and soul food expert Sean Edwards will cook next week at the RMH. There is no way they can match our gourmet creations from this week, so the residents will have a so-so meal next week. "I can not begin to talk about how much I admire Dylan and his efforts," said Cosentino. "He has made such an impact on me that I hope many others get to know how much of a positive role model he is, no matter how old you are."
