Meet The “GEL” Line

Starring:

#14 Kevin Gaughran
Position: Right Wing
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 205 pounds
Age: 17

 #19 Rui Encarnacao
Position: Center
Height: 5 feet 11 inches
Weight: 165 pounds
Age: 17

#93 Sal Lucania
Position: Left Wing
Height: 5 feet 8 inches
Weight: 160 pounds
Age: 18

 1) Kevin, what advice do you have for youth hockey players?

You know, it’s a simple game out there so don’t make it complicated. Do well in school and compete in practice the way you would in a game. Do something every day on and off the ice to improve your game.

 2) Rui, what is your biggest pet peeve?

It drives me bonkers when people keep their blinkers on. If you are not changing lanes turn the thing off.

3) Sal, Which city is better: New York City or Miami?

I like the New York attitude, but at the same time the people here are real friendly. But Miami is home and I’ll never forget where I come from.

4) Rui, who is funnier Sal or Kevin?

Both Sally and Gaughs are absolutely hysterical and when you put them together it’s a complete clown show.

5) Kevin, what annoys you most about your line-mates?

I like Sal a lot; he brings a smile to my face every time I see him. Rui on the other hand gets a little too emotional time to time and it makes things very uncomfortable for me in the locker room and shower.

6) Sal, if you were to change one thing about each of your line-mates what would they be?

If I had to change one thing about both of my line-mates, I would put Rui’s hands on Gaugs and Gaugs’ weight on Rui.

7) Sal, your line-mate Gaughran is in the league’s top ten in PIMs, what’s up with that?

You know, I don’t know. I think he thinks he is a goon, but the truth of the matter is that he has pillows for hands.

8) Rui, do you consider your line a checking line or and offensive line?

I think our line is a little bit of both. Most of the time, we’ll go out there throw the body and mix it up, but I think we can also put up goals just as much as any other line in the league.

9) Kevin, which of your line-mates do you feel would make the better youth hockey coach?

As much as I like Sal, I feel that he would become too frustrated with the younger kids, and the proper authorities would have to get involved. So I think Rui would be the better coach, but if Sal had like an anger management coach as an assistant, I think he’d be fine, too.

10) Sal, if you had to live with one of your line-mates in a one-bedroom apartment which one would it be and why?

I would say Gaughran because we can get some serious ‘marination’ going. No one marinates chicken they way we can.

 Week 5 Interview

#1 Ryan Lazarus
Position: Goaltender
Height: 6 feet 1 inch
Weight: 181 pounds
Age: 16
Nickname: ‘Laz’

Hometown: Rockville Centre, NY

1) Favorite goaltender?

Vladislav Tretiak.  He set the standard for hard work and performance as the top goalie for years.

 2) Favorite food?

Probably a sandwich.  I think meat and cheese on bread is a genius combination.

 3) What is your biggest superstition?

My biggest superstition is staying with what works.  If I have a shutout going,
I try not to change anything that I’m doing on that particular day.

4) Why do you think goalies are so weird?

Goalies are just weird by nature.  If your idea of fun is stopping hard rubber objects, then it’s easy to say that there are a few screws loose upstairs.

 5) If you were to combine two animals to make up a super-goalie which would they be and why?

I would combine a lion and cheetah to make up a super-goalie.  The lion is the master of its domain, and a cheetah is lightning-quick.  These qualities added together would make one impressive netminder.

6) Who has the best shot on the team?

The hardest shot definitely belongs to Bitty (Anthony Bitetto).  In terms of picking corners, Coach Vin is in a category by himself.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...

 #9 Rudy Sulmonte
Position: Forward
Height: 5 feet 7 inches
Weight: 165 pounds
Age: 15
Hometown: Levittown, NY

At only fifteen years old forward Rudy Sulmonte is already playing in his 2nd season of junior hockey. Regarded as one of the top ’92 birth year players in the country, Rudy battles hard on and off the ice to make sure that he is a well-rounded student/athlete. This week we will sit down with Rudy as he discusses his typical Wednesday schedule.

Wednesday with #9 Rudy Sulmonte

6:15am -                     Wake-up, take shower and get ready for school.

 8:05am - 2:20pm –     School at St. Mary’s.

3pm –     I’ll get home after a long day at school and get my homework                 done. The weeks that I have a math test, I’ll meet with my math                  tutor for a little extra help.

4:30pm - 5:15pm –    I’ll go to the gym to get a light work out before my
skate. Because it is during the hockey season the
workouts are a little   lighter, but I still make time to get
                             the workouts in.

6pm –   My parents will make dinner for the family. We usually have               pasta on Wednesdays.

8:30pm - 9:30pm- On-ice practice at Long Beach. On Wednesdays we
usually work on our special  teams and prepare for the
                             upcoming games.

10:30pm –   I’ll get home, take a shower and turn on ESPN for a little. I’ll
then hit the hay and get ready for another day of school.

 Week 1 Interview

#22 Anthony Bitetto
Position: Defense
Height: 6 feet 2 inches
Weight: 210 pounds
Age: 17
Nickname: ‘Bitty’
Hometown: Island Park, NY

  1) Rangers or Islanders?

The New York Rangers…But I do have to say that I like the
     Islanders’ Ice Girls.

  2) Favorite pre-game meal?

Snickers bar… Last season, “ROBO” (Brendan Tracy) got me to eat
one before a game and I had a three point game that night. I now eat
     one before every game.

  3) Traditional hat trick or “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” (1 goal, 1
       assist, 1 fight)?

Traditional hat trick… It’s always nice to have 3 goals.

  4) Favorite sport(s) other than hockey?

Baseball and golf… Golf because it is so relaxing, where you can just
hangout on the golf course and it is a good change of pace from
hockey.  And baseball is just a fun sport, but you still have to focus
       and work hard.

  5) UFC or WWE?

       UFC….. C’mon, it’s real.

   6) Which Empire Team is your biggest rival?

Brewster Bulldogs… It all started for me last season when we were
trailing, not once, but twice in the playoffs and we came back to beat
them both times. That  was one of the best moments in my hockey
career. But then again, I play for Apple Core, everybody hates us, so I
      guess everyone is our rival.

   7) Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson?

I don’t know about this one. If I had to pick I would probably say Tiger
just  because of the comebacks he has made in his career.

   8) Funniest teammate?

Stevie Romano…. He is a beauty. Just don’t call him sweet and you will
      be fine.

    9) Who has better hair Cosentino or Hellemeyer?

Since Vin is running the defense this year, I’ll say Vin. But Cozzie can
have some pretty good flow when he wants to.

   10) If you were given three wishes what would they be?

      1) To play D1 college hockey
      2) Receive a great education
      3) Good health
